Gazipur: Law enforcement agencies have arrested seven people, including BNP independent candidate Enamul Haque Molla from Gazipur-3 constituency, in a joint operation in Sreepur, Gazipur. During the operation, the joint forces searched Enamul Haque Molla’s house and recovered foreign pistols, walkie-talkies, magazines and bullets.
They were arrested from Barkul village in Barmi union of the upazila at around 2 am on Wednesday (November 5).
The others arrested are Shawkat Mir (45), Zahid Mia (40), Mostafa Kamal (32), Siddiqur Rahman (34), Bulbul Mia (35) and Tofazzal Hossain (45).
Sreepur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik said that on Wednesday night, based on intelligence information, members of the joint force led by Major Khandaker Mohiuddin Alamgir of the Gazipur Army Camp carried out a raid and arrested seven people, including Enamul Haque Molla. According to the information of the arrested people, two foreign pistols, three magazines, four bullets, four walkie-talkies, four batons, two electronic shock machines, a hammer, a blue gun and a knife were recovered after searching various rooms of Enamul Haque Molla’s multi-storey building.
He said that a case is under process in this regard. Members of the army, police and RAB were present in the joint raid.
Local BNP leaders and activists said that Enamul was a terror in the area at one time. He had his own armed force. There are several cases against him. Later, he strategically went to Saudi Arabia during the Awami League regime. After August 5 last year, when the country’s situation changed, he returned home from Saudi Arabia. Upon returning home, he announced his candidacy for the Gazipur 3 seat from BNP and started putting up posters and mass communication in the area. After that, he gradually activated his old forces. They said that if the nomination of BNP candidate Professor Dr. Rafiqul Islam Bachchu for the Gazipur 3 seat is confirmed, Enamul Haque Mollah announced that he will contest the election as an independent candidate.
