Muktadesh Desk: A four-day winter book fair has begun under the initiative of Dhaka University Dawah Circle. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the book fair at the Payra premises of the university’s Student-Teacher Center (TSC) on Thursday (November 6).
Chairman of the Islamic Studies Department, Professor Dr. Md. Chanaullah, Chairman of the World Religions and Culture Department, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Sayem, and Professor of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department, Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said, “One of the responsibilities of Dhaka University is the production and distribution of knowledge for the society. In this regard, the book fair is an important catalyst.”
He also said, “The university administration always encourages such knowledge and culture-based events. The university will stand by whoever works for the spread of knowledge, regardless of race, religion, or color.’
After the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor visited various stalls of the book fair. The fair will feature various events including reader-writer chats, discussion meetings, Quran recitation, quiz competitions, and free distribution of saplings.
Stalls of 28 publishers have been placed at the book fair. The fair will be open to everyone from 10 am to 9 pm every day until November 9.
