Narayanganj: A court has sentenced brother-in-law Sadiqur Rahman to death for killing his sister-in-law and nephew in Araihazar, Narayanganj.
On Thursday (November 6) afternoon, Judge Abu Shamim Azad of the Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge’s Court announced the verdict in the presence of the convicted accused. After the verdict was announced, Sadiqur was sent to the district jail.
According to the case records, Razia Sultana Kakli (30), wife of expatriate Awal Nabi of Panchgaon Mollabari area of Araihazar upazila, lived in the house with her eight-year-old son Talha.
On the night of July 2, 2022, the mother and son fell asleep after eating. The next morning, locals found the bloody bodies of Razia and her son Talha inside the house and informed the police.
Later, deceased Razia’s mother Taslima Begum filed a murder case with Araihazar police station as the plaintiff. During the investigation, the police arrested Razia’s brother-in-law, Sadiqur Rahman.
The investigation revealed that Sadiqur, a drug addict, had borrowed money from his fiancée Razia for drug money. When Razia refused to pay, he hacked and butchered Razia and the sleeping Talha to death with a knife in the house. Then he fled with cash and gold ornaments from the cupboard. After his arrest, Sadiqur confessed to the murder during interrogation.
State lawyer and Public Prosecutor (PP) of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court, Abul Kalam Azad Zakir, said, “After taking the testimonies of 16 witnesses and completing the judicial process, the court has ordered the death penalty for the accused Sadiqur as the charges were proven.”
