Muktadesh Desk: The High Court has declared the notification issued by the Election Commission to reduce the parliamentary seats of Bagerhat from four to three as illegal. As a result, Bagerhat will have only four parliamentary seats.
The High Court has also ruled that there will be five parliamentary seats in Gazipur instead of six. A double bench of the High Court gave this ruling on Monday.
Ahead of the 13th National Parliament election, the Election Commission initially proposed on July 30 to reduce one of the four seats in Bagerhat to three.
In this, Bagerhat was divided into three seats by reducing one from the four seats. The writ was filed in September challenging its validity.
