Sports Desk: In the wake of the sexual harassment allegations made by former Bangladesh women’s national cricket team captain Jahanara Alam, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already formed a three-member investigation committee. This time, four of the accused have been made ‘OSD’.
The officials who have been made OSD are manager SM Golam Fayez, physio Suraiya Akhter, coach Mahmud Emon and official Sarfaraz Babu. However, the main accused former manager and selector Manjurul Islam is currently in China. He has already claimed that all of Jahanara’s allegations are false.
It is worth noting that in an interview given on a YouTube channel last Thursday, Jahanara had accused former women’s team selector Manjurul Islam and former in-charge of the women’s department, the late Towhid Mahmud, of sexual harassment. Even after repeatedly complaining to the BCB, she did not get any redress. On the contrary, Manjurul increased the amount of torture on her. At one point, Jahanara was forced to withdraw from the national team.
After such allegations, the BCB decided to investigate and announced to publish the investigation report within 15 working days. Then, the investigation committee was formed yesterday, Saturday. The convener of this three-member committee is retired Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Tariq ul Hakim, and the members are newly appointed BCB director Rubaba Daula Matin and Supreme Court senior advocate Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla.
