Muktadesh Desk: Police have unraveled the mystery surrounding the recovery of businessman Ashraful Haque’s dismembered body from the High Court area of Dhaka. The murder was committed due to extramarital affairs. Ashraful also got involved with his friend Jarezul’s girlfriend. Jarezul killed Ashraful after seeing the two in an objectionable state. He cut the body into 26 pieces.
Detective Branch (DB) police and RAB conducted a raid on the incident on Friday (November 14) and arrested the deceased’s friend Jarezul and his extramarital affair girlfriend.
On Thursday night (November 13), 26 pieces of the body were found in two blue drums near the gate of the National Eidgah ground adjacent to the High Court. Police identified Ashraful Haque with the help of fingerprints. His home is in Rangpur. He used to trade in raw materials.
Law enforcement officials said that the deceased Ashraful and Malaysian expatriate Jarezul live in Rangpur. They are friends. The woman’s husband lives in Saudi Arabia. Her home is in Daudkandi, Comilla. Jorezul met her through social media and fell in love with her.
After returning home, they met in Dhaka. They also developed a physical relationship. When Jorezul’s village friend Ashraful Haque came to Dhaka, he introduced her to his girlfriend. When Jorezul returned to Malaysia, this time Ashraful fell in love with the woman.
After returning home again, Jorezul rented a house in Shanir Akhra in the capital. On hearing this, Ashraful also came to that house. This time Ashraful told Jorezul about their relationship. Jorezul got angry and left the house. In anger, he took Ashraful’s phone and left. When his anger subsided, he realized that he had brought the wrong phone.
Jorezul returned home again. He found Ashraful and his girlfriend in an offensive situation. Enraged, Jorezul hit Ashraful on the head with a hammer. He immediately fell down. Then, they confirmed his death by smothering him with a pillow.
The woman also helped in the murder. The two sat with the body for 24 hours. They could not understand what to do. Later, they planned to cut it into pieces. They filled the body into 26 pieces and filled two drums. Since they were new to Dhaka, they did not know where to put the drums. While driving around in a CNG-powered autorickshaw, the two left the two drums there and fled.
The law enforcement agencies also said that after the murder, they realized that there was no escape for Jarezul and his girlfriend. They fled to Daudkandi in Comilla. Once there, the two changed their destination. The two went in both directions. However, they were not saved in the end. They were caught by the law enforcement agencies.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Jarezul, the main accused in the murder, from Daudkandi in Comilla. The hammer used in the murder was also recovered. And the RAB arrested Jarezul’s girlfriend. The agency recovered the remaining evidence used in the murder.
CCTV footage shows that the woman rented a CNG autorickshaw and came to Shanir Akhara’s house in the capital at 2:43 pm on Thursday. Within five minutes, she left in the CNG with Jarezul Islam. They had two drums with them. They traveled 20 kilometers to reach the Mazar Gate in the High Court area. Seizing the opportunity, they left the drums at around 3:15 pm.
