Rangpur: The lockdown called by the Awami League has turned Rangpur city into a traffic jam centered on the verdict of fascist Sheikh Hasina tomorrow, Monday. Leaders and activists are missing after calling for a lockdown on social media.
Businessman Sumon Mia, owner of Rangpur Side Bakery and member of the chamber, and hotelier Ramzan Ali said, there is no sign of a lockdown in Rangpur. We have been doing business peacefully as before. The leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League have themselves gone missing after calling for the lockdown. They don’t care.
Auto drivers Rahmat Ali and Bashir Mia said, what kind of lockdown is it, we have to stand at intersections for hours due to traffic jams. The traffic police are struggling to provide sites. We have heard about the lockdown from people’s mouths, but in reality we don’t see any lockdown. Occasionally, processions of Jamaat-Shibir and BNP leaders and activists have been seen.
District BNP convener Saiful Islam said, our party leaders and activists are in the field in the lockdown called by the Awami League and its affiliated organizations centered on the verdict of the murderer fascist Hasina. We are always in the field to prevent any kind of their mischief.
District Jamaat secretary Maulana Enamul Haque said, there is no chance for fascists to return to this country. Those who try to create anarchy based on the verdict of the murderer Hasina of the students and the public will be resisted with a strong hand. The administration must strictly suppress the issue of how the killer Hasina’s friends dare to destabilize this country to mislead the people.
Rangpur Pirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, Badarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atiqur Rahman Atiq, and Rangpur Metro Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ataur Rahman said that the police administration is working day and night to prevent the lockdown called by the Awami League and its affiliates based on Sheikh Hasina’s verdict. In addition to additional security measures in each police station, we inspectors are also working on the ground. From yesterday to today, no news of any procession, meeting, showdown or Awami League activity has been received in our police station area.
Rangpur District Police Superintendent Abu Saim said that four cases have been filed against those involved in sabotage and anti-state activities under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in Badarganj, Mithapukur, Pirganj and Gangachhara police stations in Rangpur. So far, more than 20 Awami League office-bearers have been arrested in these cases. Special measures have been taken by the district police since November 13 to prevent sabotage during the lockdown. The police are always working in the field to prevent any kind of anti-national act and to provide security to life and property. The intelligence department is continuing its activities and whenever any special news comes from any Khan, the police immediately go there and conduct operations.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Majid Ali said that the police are working in the field day and night to protect Rangpur city. So far, more than 15 Awami League leaders and activists have been arrested in six metro police stations under the Special Powers Act during the lockdown. Additional police have been deployed so that no one can create anarchy or disrupt the movement of people in the wake of Sheikh Hasina’s verdict. Additional police are on duty in every city government office, court and hospital. The police are on the field 24 hours a day to prevent any kind of sabotage.
