Narayanganj: Ferdousi Akhter Rehena has sparked a new discussion in Narayanganj politics. At one time, she was a staunch Awami League supporter. Her presence in boat meetings, rallies, processions, and banners was regular. She gained an influential position, especially due to her close acquaintance with Godfather Shamim Osman.
Rehena also uploaded all the pictures of her publicly sailing on a boat in the controversial 12th National Parliament elections held in 2024 on social media. However, after the July coup, this boat leader has completely opposed Awami. She has joined the Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party ahead of the upcoming 13th Parliament elections. She has shared the nomination. She will contest from Narayanganj-4 constituency under the eagle symbol. She is also holding meetings and rallies. Locals are shocked by Rehena’s political transformation.
Locals said that her activeness in Awami League politics was so obvious that she used to lead the procession at every meeting. During the fascist Awami government, she used to influence people in her area of Sastapur and keep them close. Since Osman was close, no one would speak against her. She even married a former vice-president of Comilla District Chhatra League.
They also said that during the last 11th and 12th National Parliament elections, Ferdousi Akhter Rehana threatened women voters to go to the polling stations and forced them to vote in boats in front of her. Those who did not want to vote openly were forced to take pictures with their mobile phones and show them. We do not understand how another party nominated an Awami League leader like her.
However, AB Party Office Secretary Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun claimed that Ferdousi Akhter Rehana’s nomination has not been finalized yet. He said, our candidates have been finalized in 109 seats. Narayanganj- Our candidate for the 4th constituency has not been finalized. We will make a decision after scrutiny.
A former Awami League supporter is now presenting herself as an anti-Awami League leader. However, in the eyes of the locals, she is still the old Rehana who knows how to change colors perfectly according to the political winds.
