Muktadesh Desk: The United Nations Security Council will vote on Monday (November 17) on a resolution endorsing US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, diplomats said.
Arab News reported that the United States formally initiated discussions in the 15-member Security Council last week. The resolution aims to support Trump’s plan and the post-truce process between Israel and Hamas, which has been in the war for two years.
The draft resolution, which was seen on Thursday, welcomes the formation of a “Board of Peace.” This is an interim governing structure for Gaza, with Trump theoretically as the head. This mandate will last until the end of 2027.
The resolution also says that member states will be authorized to form a temporary International Security Force (ISF). This force will work with Israel, Egypt and the newly formed Palestinian police force to ensure border security and demilitarize Gaza.
This issue was not included in previous drafts, but the latest draft also mentions the possible future formation of a Palestinian state.
