Mukta Desh Desk: A Turkish military cargo plane crashed in Georgia, killing 20 people. The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon on its way back from Azerbaijan, the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the ministry, the C-130 Hercules aircraft took off from Ganja Airport in the western city of Azerbaijan and headed for Turkey. However, the plane crashed shortly after crossing Georgia’s eastern border.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry said the plane crashed in the Sighnaghi area, about five kilometers from the Azerbaijani border. The country’s air traffic control agency said the plane disappeared from radar without sending any distress signals.
Defense Minister Yasar Guler X (formerly Twitter) said in a statement, releasing a photo of the 20 dead passengers. “Our brave comrades died in the crash on their way back from Azerbaijan to Turkey on November 11, 2025.”
Although the cause of the crash has not yet been officially announced, local media and eyewitness video footage showed the plane circling several times before crashing.
The plane was a C-130 Hercules military cargo plane made by US defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
