Muktadesh Desk: Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said that there is no reason for the city residents to be unnecessarily panicked about the so-called November 13 program of a banned group and its affiliates that spread hoaxes on social media.
He said this at a crowded press briefing organized at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday (November 11).
The DMP Commissioner said that for some days, a banned group has been trying to deteriorate the law and order situation in the country by spreading propaganda on social media. As part of that effort, their leaders and activists have recently gathered in the capital from different parts of the country and are organizing flash mobs and creating panic in the minds of the public by setting fire to various vehicles including cocktail explosions.
He said that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is trying to prevent their vile activities and has arrested a total of 552 people involved in these misdeeds from October 1 to November 11. Most of them are from outside Dhaka and work is underway to identify the saboteurs by analyzing CCTV footage of various incidents, such as cocktail explosions and setting vehicles on fire.
In a press briefing, the DMP Commissioner requested the city residents to confirm their identity before giving shelter to any stranger and to check their national identity cards at hotels and guest houses. He also requested the city residents to ensure that personal and any type of commercial vehicles are not left unprotected under any circumstances.
Reminding the importance of the role of the city residents in maintaining law and order, the DMP Commissioner said, “We have become free from tyranny with the successful uprising of the students and the public. The planners of sabotage must be resisted together. The honorable city residents are our strength. Along with them, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is capable of preventing any kind of sabotage and chaos. Along with the police, members of the army, BGB, RAB and various intelligence agencies are active, so there is no reason to be unnecessarily panicked by the isolated activities of the saboteurs.”
