Muktadesh Desk: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has published a notice in national dailies declaring Sheikh Hasina, along with a total of 261 accused, absconding in the much-discussed sedition case related to the ‘Joy Bangla Brigade’.
The CID published this notice in two widely circulated national dailies on Friday in response to the order of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
This information was given in a press release signed by CID’s Special Police Superintendent (Media) Jasim Uddin Khan on Friday.
Sheikh Hasina is the main accused in this sedition case filed by the CID at Ramna Police Station. The case was filed under sections 121, 121(a) and 124(a) of the Penal Code. The CID is empowered to file this case with the approval of the Home Ministry under section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The press release stated that during the investigation, the CID came to know that an online platform called “Joy Bangla Brigade” was carrying out far-reaching conspiratorial activities to overthrow the legitimate government in the country and abroad.
The CID completed the investigation with skill and professionalism in the fastest possible time and filed a charge sheet against a total of 286 people, including Sheikh Hasina, in the court. During the investigation of the case, information from various digital platforms, servers and social media was collected and forensic analysis was done.
Court order and publication of notice
According to the CID’s notice, on October 30, Judge Ariful Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court No. 17 issued an order for the next steps in the case. After the absence of a total of 261 accused, including the main accused Sheikh Hasina, was confirmed in the court, the judge declared them absconding and directed the CID to publish notices in their names in two widely circulated national dailies. Based on that order, the CID published the advertisement.
In the press release, the CID further stated that the case is now fully prepared for further proceedings in the court. The CID is playing an important role in establishing justice in the country and implementing the ‘justice’ agenda announced by the interim government. With the publication of this notice, legal proceedings against the absconding accused have begun.
