Sports Desk: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Young batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon has been called up for the first time in the ODI team. He made his Test debut last year, and this time he can be seen in white-ball cricket as well.
On the other hand, experienced opener Soumya Sarkar, who last played in the Champions Trophy held in February this year, has returned to the team. On the other hand, two players who were in the recently concluded series against Afghanistan—opener Naeem Sheikh and pacer Nahid Rana—have been dropped from the team.
The Bangladesh team is getting a new balance amid changes in the top-order. Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraj will continue to lead this time, along with regulars like Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy and currently the team’s best performer Saif Hasan.
However, one major absence remains—Liton Das. After suffering an injury in the Asia Cup, the team management has decided to rest him based on the scan report. According to team sources, they do not want to take risks until the T20 captain is fully recovered.
The three-match ODI series against Bangladesh will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, on October 18, 21 and 23 respectively.
Bangladesh team: Mehedi Hasan Miraj (captain), Tanjid Hasan Tamim, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Saif Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Zaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mostafizur Rahman, Tanjim Hasan Shakib, Hasan Mahmud.
