Muktadesh Desk: The verdict against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising will be announced today. On Monday (November 17), the International Crimes Tribunal-1 will announce the verdict in the case filed on a total of five charges.
These five charges are: making provocative statements; ordering the elimination of protesters using lethal weapons; shooting and killing Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed in Rangpur; shooting and killing six protesters in the capital’s Chankharpul area and burning six people to death in Ashulia.
Along with Sheikh Hasina, the other two accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. Of the three accused, Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman are absconding. Both are currently residing in India.
Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. The verdict is expected to be delivered by a three-member judicial panel led by Golam Mortuza Majumder. The other two members are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Police brought Mamun to the tribunal in a prison van from the prison after 9:10 am today under tight security. He was brought for the last time in this case today. Although Hasina and Kamal are absconding, this former IGP has been in prison for a year. However, he gave a statement to the tribunal as a public witness. As a result, the prosecution has left the punishment of the former IGP to the tribunal. At the same time, the maximum sentence has been sought for Sheikh Hasina and Kamal.
Meanwhile, several levels of security have been increased in the tribunal and Supreme Court area in view of Sheikh Hasina’s verdict. Along with the police-RAB, APBN-BGB, the army is deployed. Members of the intelligence agencies are also on the alert. For security reasons, law enforcement agencies have closed the road leading to Shiksha Bhavan from Doyel Chattar since Sunday evening. Public movement has also been restricted.
