Sports Desk: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced an investigation after former Bangladesh women’s cricket team pacer Jahanara Alam alleged sexual harassment and mental torture against her. Two days later, the BCB formed an investigation committee.
The three-member committee has been convened by retired Supreme Court Appellate Division judge Tariq ul Hakim. The other two members of the committee are BCB’s only female director Rubaba Daula and Supreme Court senior lawyer Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla. This committee formed by the BCB will look into Jahanara’s allegations.
In a recent interview on a YouTube channel, Jahanara accused selector and manager Manjurul Islam of making bad proposals. This incident took place in 2022. The pacer also accused Manjur of mental torture, sexual harassment and bad behavior at various times when she did not agree to those proposals.
Jahanara’s complaint is also against the late Towhid Mahmud, the personal assistant of former BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon and former in-charge of women’s cricket. Jahanara also has complaints against several other members of the team management and the board. Although she informed the then chairman of the women’s department, Shafiul Islam Chowdhury, several times, Jahanara alleged that he only gave temporary solutions without taking appropriate measures. Even after informing BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury in detail in writing, she did not get a solution.
Incidentally, Jahanara has played 52 ODIs and 83 T20Is for Bangladesh. The 32-year-old pacer was last seen in international cricket in December. She is currently settled in Australia. She is doing a coaching course in Sydney along with playing club cricket.
