Muktadesh Desk: The draft guidelines for the telecom sector will increase the price of internet at the consumer level by 11 percent in Dhaka and 18.40 percent in villages outside Dhaka. Like the telecom sector, 5 percent revenue share in this sector, 1 percent deposit in the social security fund and providing FW and hotspot facilities to telecom companies will put 2,700 domestic entrepreneurs in this sector at risk.
This information was given at a press conference organized by ISPAB at the Skyline Restaurant of Rawa Club in Mohakhali, the capital, on Monday morning.
At the press conference, ISPAB President Aminul Hakim said that the government is moving in the wrong direction. The public’s aspirations are not reflected in the license guidelines. Even though domestic small entrepreneurs have come into this business out of social responsibility, revenue and SOF funds have been imposed on their income, not their profits. Why is there such a disparity between ISPs and Starlink? Why are telecom operators given more benefits than licenses?
He also said that if the new policy is implemented, the average internet price at the consumer level will increase by 20 percent; The business level will increase by 14 percent. Due to such a situation, we request the political parties to intervene in the telecom sector.
ISPAB Vice President Neyamul Haque Khan, Joint Secretary General Mahbub Alam, Fuad Muhammad Sharfuddin and Treasurer Moin Uddin Ahmed were present at the press conference moderated by ISPAB General Secretary Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan.
