Muktadesh Desk: Stating that Bangladesh is in a ‘critical situation’, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that the direction the country will go in, how it will walk on the path of democracy, depends on the next parliamentary elections. The course of Bangladesh will be determined through the elections.
He said these things after inspecting the security drill of Ansar-VDP polling stations in the national elections and the basic training program of Ansar platoon members of the fourth phase of 2025-26 on Monday. The training was organized at the Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB) in Bhatara in the capital.
The CEC said, ‘What Bangladesh will I leave for the future, what kind of Bangladesh will I leave, whether I will leave a democratic Bangladesh or not, how will I leave it—that thought keeps me thinking all the time. I personally did not take this (the post of CEC) as a routine responsibility, I did not take it as a job. I took it as a mission, I took it as a challenge. I do not believe in traditional work. Especially, when the country is in such a critical moment – working in the traditional way will not work. We have to go beyond the scope of our responsibilities.’
He said, ‘It is not possible to hold a fair election without the cooperation of all concerned, including voters, political parties, law enforcement officers. Together, we will give the gift of a beautiful election, so that the country moves forward, democracy moves forward.’
