Muktdesh Desk: The High Court has issued a rule asking why the family of a person who was killed after a Metrorail bearing pad was removed should not be given Tk 20 million in compensation. At the same time, the court ordered the formation of an expert committee to investigate the overall safety and accident in the Metrorail and submit a report within 30 days.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Asif Hasan gave the order on Wednesday (October 29).
Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun and Advocate Tanvir Ahmed heard the writ petition in the court.
Earlier, a writ petition was filed in the High Court seeking directions to form a committee to assess the quality of the bearing pads of the Metrorail and all flyovers.
The writ petition asked for the formation of a committee to verify whether the quality of the bearing pads used in the Metrorail and all flyovers is correct. In addition, another writ petition was filed to provide Tk 20 million in compensation to the family of a person who was killed after a Metrorail bearing pad was removed.
It is worth mentioning that a man named Abul Kalam was killed when a bearing pad of a metro rail fell off in the capital’s Farmgate area. The accident occurred at around 12:30 pm on Sunday (October 26). The deceased’s home is in Isharpati village of Naria upazila of Shariatpur.
In this tragic incident, the government had assured the family of the deceased of five lakh taka and a job in the metro rail for the family members.
