Muktdesh Desk: There was a clash between the police and the independent Ebtedayi Madrasa teachers protesting for nationalization. At least 20 people were injured in this.
On Wednesday (October 29), hundreds of Ebtedayi teachers started a procession under the banner of the Independent Ebtedayi Madrasa Teachers Oikyajote Andolonika Manishment Committee from in front of the National Press Club at around 2 pm.
It is learned that the Ebtedayi Madrasa teachers faced police obstacles when they marched from the National Press Club towards the Secretariat demanding nationalization. At that time, the teachers and the police clashed and clashed. At one stage, the police fired tear gas and sound grenades to control the situation. At least 20 people were injured in this.
Md. Abdus Salam Azad, a teacher at the Hatibandha Independent Ebtedayi Madrasa in Lalmonirhat, said, “We were going to the Secretariat with a peaceful procession to express our demands. But the police stopped us.”
He said, “Sound grenades have been thrown at us and water cannons have been used in our faces. It is very sad. What kind of country is it where teachers are attacked! Even if someone dies here, the movement will continue until our demands are met.”
Abdul Khalek, a teacher from Joypurhat, said, “We are protesting for the nationalization of Ebtedayi Madrasa education. If the government wants, it can accept our demands, but they are holding back. Although the government had earlier announced that our demands will be accepted, they are still wasting time.”
The hunger march was led by Shamsul Alam, convener of the Independent Ebtedayi Madrasa Teachers’ Unity Movement Implementation Committee, Mohammad Al Amin, member secretary of the committee, and Kazi Mokhlesur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Independent Ebtedayi Madrasa Teachers’ Association.
