Muktdesh Desk: The son of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, has expressed his fear that the International Crimes Tribunal will issue a death sentence against her. At the same time, he expressed relief and said, “Nothing will happen to my mother. My mother is safe in India. India is providing her with full security.”
He said these things in an interview with Reuters on Sunday.
The verdict in the case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three other accused in the July uprising is being announced on Monday. The entire nation is waiting for the verdict. This will be the first trial verdict in Bangladesh’s history against a person holding the highest position in the government for genocide by the International Crimes Tribunal.
A UN report said that from July 15 to August 5 last year, about 1,400 people were killed. Thousands were injured. Most of them died in police firing. It was the worst political violence since independence.
Hasina fled to India in the face of a student uprising in August 2024. He is now in exile in Delhi. His son Joy said that India is providing him with complete security.
Regarding the verdict, Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, “We already know what the verdict will be. They are showing it on television. They will convict him. And maybe give him the death penalty.”
However, he expressed relief and said, “Nothing will happen to my mother. My mother is safe in India. India is providing her complete security.”
