Muktadesh Desk: Actress Mehjabeen Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury have surrendered and been granted bail. Judge Afroza Tania of Dhaka’s Executive Magistrate Court-3 granted them bail after a hearing on Sunday (November 16).
They surrendered to the court this evening. At that time, their lawyer Tuhin Howlader applied for bail. The court granted bail after the hearing.
Earlier, on November 10, an arrest warrant was issued against them in a case filed on charges of embezzling Tk 2.7 million and threatening and intimidating them in exchange for being kept as partners in a family business. The report in this regard has been fixed for December 18.
According to sources in the case, Mehjabeen, due to her long-standing acquaintance with Amirul Islam, paid Tk 2.7 million in cash and through bKash at different times, promising to keep her as a partner in Chowdhury’s new family business.
After that, when Mehjabeen and her brother did not take the initiative to start a business for a long time, Amirul Islam delayed asking for money at various times, saying that he would give it today and tomorrow. Later, on the afternoon of February 11, he went to ask for the money owed. He asked him to come to a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road on March 16. When he went to the spot that day, Mehjabeen and her brother were abused by 4-5 other unidentified people.
They said, “After this, you will not go to our house to ask for money. If I see you in front of the house again, I will kill you.” Saying these things, they threatened and intimidated Amirul. When the concerned Bhatara went to the police station to resolve the matter, the authorities advised him to file a case in court. In this incident, Amirul Islam filed a case in the Executive Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka as a plaintiff on March 24.
