Muktadesh Desk: BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will return home in the first week of December, said Major General (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar, security advisor to the party chairperson. He gave this information in a recent interview with a media outlet.
Party sources say that after living abroad for almost 17 years, Tarique Rahman will return to Dhaka and stay in a house next to his mother’s house.
The renovation and security work at the house at 196 Gulshan Avenue in the capital is in its final stages. The outer walls of the building have been decorated with new colors, and a security ring surrounded by barbed wire has been installed on the boundary wall.
In addition, preparations and security work are also underway at the BNP chairperson’s office on Road 86 in Gulshan-2.
Fazle Elahi Akbar said that Tarique Rahman will return home in the first week of December, one to two days after the announcement of the national election schedule.
He said that considering the political reality and security situation, the government expects special security measures.
Fazle Elahi also said that although Umrah was scheduled to be performed this month, it has been postponed for the time being due to the current situation. Tarique Rahman plans to visit Saudi Arabia after the election.
In addition, the Ministry of Home Affairs recently approved the purchase of two bulletproof vehicles for the security of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. He said that the process of approving the weapons license is also underway.
