Gazipur: A terrible fire broke out in a cotton godown in Tongi. Seven units of the fire service brought the fire under control after about two hours of effort. However, at least seven cotton godowns were burnt in the fire.
Earlier, on Saturday (November 8), a fire broke out in a cotton godown in the Tongi Millgate area at around 11:35 am. Fire service members brought the fire under control around 1:30 pm.
The fire service said that after receiving the information, three units of the Tongi Fire Service reached the spot at 11:35 am and started working to control the fire. Later, four more units joined the work. The fire was brought under control after about two hours of effort.
The fire spread quickly because there was flammable material in the cotton godown. Fire service members said that there was a delay in controlling the fire due to lack of water.
No casualties were reported in the fire. However, at least seven cotton godowns were burnt. Army, RAB and police members are present at the spot.
Confirming the matter, Senior Station Officer Shaheen Alam of Tongi Fire Service and Civil Station told our time, “The fire was brought under control after about two hours of effort.”
