Muktdesh Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused some like-minded parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, of conspiring to sabotage the election by demanding a referendum.
He said these things at a pre-rally rally in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on Friday.
Warning the interim government, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “I want to say very clearly that a conspiracy is going on regarding the election. The election and the referendum must be held on the same day and that election must be held on February 26. Otherwise, the people of Bangladesh will not accept it at all.”
Mirza Fakhrul said, “A political party is creating pressure in various ways by forming an alliance that a referendum must be held before the election. We have said that the referendum must be held on the election day. Because, if we have to hold two votes, a lot of money will be spent and the importance of the main election will be reduced.” Today, unfortunately, the interim government, to whom we have given full support, is taking such measures that will hinder the election process.
The BNP Secretary General said, we will participate in this election and, God willing, we will win this election and build a new Bangladesh. Calling on the youth, he said, “Let us move forward with respect to the sacrifices you have made, the souls of thousands of our leaders and activists who have been martyred, and ensure our victory.”
Calling BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman the leader of the modern democratic movement, Mirza Fakhrul said, Tarique Rahman announced a 31-point program for reforms. When this interim government started the work of those reforms, we gave them full support. They worked on these reforms for almost a year. On October 17, their parties agreed, we signed the issues on which there was consensus. After that, we did not accept the remaining issues.
He said, I said that after the conference—later we saw, suddenly a member of the advisory council held a press conference and said that their advisory council had decided; the political parties would be given seven days to discuss among themselves and take a decision. So how did the unified commission that has been working on the reform proposals for so long, have our representatives, all the parties’ representatives—then how did this happen? They spent a lot of money on the work, but none of the problems of the political parties were solved.
Pointing to a political party, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said, if BNP enters the field, you will not be able to find any of them. Just as they misled the nation in 1971, they are still doing the same. They apologize to the nation while there is still time.
