Muktadesh Desk: BNP candidate Ershad Ullah from Chittagong-8 (Bakaliya-Boalkhali) constituency was shot during an election campaign. One person was reported to have died in the incident. Ershad Ullah has been admitted to a private hospital in the city.
The incident took place in the Hamzarbagh area of Bayezid police station in the city on Wednesday afternoon. He was rushed to Evercare Hospital with a gunshot wound.
Local sources said that Ershad Ullah left his election office with his workers for a campaign at around 4:30 pm. When he reached the Hamzarbagh area, unknown persons suddenly opened fire. Ershad Ullah was shot. It has been reported that one person died on the spot from the gunshot wound in the incident. However, the details of the deceased are not known.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (North) Deputy Police Commissioner Amirul Islam told Amar Desh that Ershad Ullah was admitted to the hospital after being shot. There have been reports of one death in the incident, but we are yet to confirm it.
A doctor at Evercare Hospital said that Ershad Ullah suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. His condition is critical.
