Cox’s Bazar: Five people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a tourist microbus in Chakaria on the Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong highway.
The accident occurred around 9:30 am on Wednesday (November 5) south of the Hanser Dighi Army Camp in Phansiakhali, Chakaria.
Four women and a child are among the deceased. Their names and identities were not immediately known.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Malumghat Highway Police Station Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter. Quoting locals, he said that a tourist microbus was going from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar. When the microbus reached the Chakaria Phansiakhali area, it collided head-on with a high-speed passenger bus called Marsa coming from the opposite direction. Five tourists, including a child and a woman, died on the spot.
Two tourists were injured at the time. They are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the OC said. He also said that it was not possible to arrest the bus driver and helper as they fled after the accident. However, the bus has been seized.
