Muktdesh Desk: National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said that whether the referendum will be held before or after the elections is not the main crisis. However, the July Charter must be issued by Dr. Yunus. If President Chuppu signs it, the nail in the coffin of reforms will be put in place.
He said these things at a press conference at the central office of the National Citizens Party in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
He said that one group is destroying the reforms, while another group wants to postpone the elections. If the legal basis for the July Charter is written, there will be no problem even on the day of the referendum.
He said that if there is no one in favor of reforms, it is not possible to enter into an alliance with them. The government has repeatedly changed the text under pressure from a party. As in the first draft of the implementation order, there was a provision that the reform proposal would be automatically added to the constitution after 270 days, we support it. If this is not the case, we will have to reconsider whether we will support that order or not.
He also said that Sheikh Mujib has been used as an icon of fascism. There can be no obligation to use his picture in the constitution. If changes are made to the draft-1 as it is in the implementation order, the NCP may not support it.
On the symbol issue, Nahid Islam said, “Instead of cooperating with us as a new party, the Election Commission is creating obstacles in our work. However, they could have given the decision of Shapla Kali even a month ago. We want Shaplai.”
