Muktadesh Desk: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been elected as the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami again. He has been declared the Ameer for the third consecutive term of 2026-2028.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum, who is in charge of conducting the internal elections of Jamaat-e-Islami, announced the results of the ‘Ameer’ election of the organization on the night of November 1 (Saturday).
It is known that votes were taken from (member) members across the country from October 9 to October 25 through secret ballots. After the voting process, the responsible team completed the counting of votes. According to the results obtained, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been elected as the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami by receiving the highest number of votes for the 2026-2028 term.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was born on 31 October 1958 in Bhatera Union of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar district in a respectable Muslim family. He passed his SSC examination from the local Baramchal High School in 1974 and his HSC examination from Sylhet MC College in 1976. After earning his MBBS degree from Sylhet Medical College (now MAG Osmani Medical College) in 1983, he devoted himself to politics along with medical services.
He joined the Jasad Chhatra League in 1973. He joined Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in 1977. Later, he served as the president of the Sylhet Medical College branch of this organization and the president of the Sylhet city branch.
Then, in 1984, he entered larger politics by joining Jamaat-e-Islami. Later, he served as the Sylhet city, district and metropolitan ameer. In 2016, he was appointed as the Secretary General of Jamaat. The Amir was elected on November 12, 2019, through a direct vote of the rukans (members) of Jamaat-e-Islami.
