Muktdesh Desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly criticized the ‘notes of dissent’ given by BNP in the report of the Consensus Commission. He accused the commission of ‘deceiving’ the people and political parties. He also demanded immediate correction of the report.
He said these things at a publication event titled ‘Justice-Reform-Election, Bangladesh in the Interim Period’ at the National Press Club on Wednesday afternoon.
He said, on Tuesday, our reform commission, the Consensus Commission, they submitted their report to the chief advisor. The chief advisor signed it, he is its chairman. We gave ‘notes of dissent’ on the issues on which we did not agree. They had a promise to record those notes of dissent. But we were surprised to notice that when they published it yesterday, those issues were not there.
Questioning the purpose of forming the Consensus Commission, the BNP Secretary General said, then why was the Consensus Commission formed? This consensus commission—I would say this is a deception of the people.
Demanding an acceptable election at the root of crisis resolution, not reform, he said, if these issues are not corrected immediately, it will go against unity. It needs to be corrected.
Mirza Fakhrul said very clearly, we think that the root of all crises is a truly acceptable election. Through that election, a people’s parliament will be formed, in that parliament it will be possible to bring all the problems into the constitution and that is how the country will run.
He said, that is why we talked about elections after August 5. Today it is proven that the more this election is delayed, the stronger the defeated forces are becoming, who want to see Bangladesh unstable.
Terming the campaign that ‘BNP is anti-reform’ as completely false and ‘false propaganda’, the BNP Secretary General said, BNP was born through reform. However, BNP is consensually running a campaign against reform. This is totally false, a false propaganda.
