Muktadesh Desk: Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has made a surprise announcement that the country’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Minister “Diela” is now “pregnant” and will soon give birth to “83 children”, Indian media outlet NDTV reported on Sunday.
Speaking at the Global Dialogue (BGD) conference, Rama said, “We took a big risk with Diela today and we did very well. So for the first time, Diela is pregnant with 83 children.”
He explained that these “children” or AI assistants will record every activity in parliament and keep parliamentarians informed about discussions or events that occur in their absence.
Rama also jokingly said, “If someone forgets to return to the session after going for coffee, this child will tell what was said and who should respond.”
The Albanian Prime Minister expressed hope that the system will be fully operational by the end of 2026 and will play a supporting role in parliamentary activities.
“Diela” (meaning “sun”) was appointed in September 2024 with the aim of making Albania’s public procurement system transparent and free from corruption.
She works as a virtual assistant on the e-Albania platform, helping citizens and businesses collect government documents.
The AI-generated minister is presented as a female avatar in traditional Albanian dress. Diela is currently in full charge of public tender decisions, which Rama claims are “100 percent corruption-free” and completely transparent.
With this appointment, Albania has made history by becoming the first country in the world to appoint a non-human (AI) government minister. Diela is a digital entity created entirely from code and pixels, who is now set to become the mother of “83 children” in a figurative sense — with the aim of making Albania’s parliamentary process more efficient and tech-enabled.
