The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has cancelled the gazette of 53 ‘July fighters’ of Rangpur division in view of various complaints and inconsistencies with the list.
This information was given in a notification signed by Haridas Thakur, Deputy Secretary (Gazette) of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Monday (November 17).
The notification said that the government has cancelled the gazette of these 53 people from the ‘July fighters’ gazette of July Uprising 2024 in exercise of the powers conferred on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs under Section 11 (4) of the July Uprising Martyrs’ Families and July Fighters Welfare and Rehabilitation Ordinance, 2025 (Ordinance No. 30, 2025) and Serial No. 23 of the Rules of Business 1996 Gi Schedule-1 (Allocation of Business). This order will come into effect immediately.
In this regard, a few days ago, Farooq E Azam, advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said, “The previous lists (gazettes) are being scrutinized. Complaints have come from various places and have also been published in newspapers that some of those previously listed were not injured in the July movement or were not in the movement. The government is worried about them.”
Earlier, on August 3, the ministry issued a notification canceling the names of eight people from the list of martyrs.
Currently, the number of martyrs is 836. However, this is the first time that the Ministry of Liberation War is taking steps to cancel the gazette of July fighters. In the official list, there are a total of 13,800 injured or July fighters in these three categories – ‘very seriously injured’ (A), ‘seriously injured’ (B) and ‘injured’ (C).
