Muktadesh Desk: Turkey has issued arrest warrants for 37 Israeli officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gavir.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued the order on Friday (November 7).
The prosecution says that these officials are responsible for a series of military attacks on civilians, hospitals and various infrastructure in Gaza since October 2023. The charges also include the killing of six-year-old Hind Rajab and airstrikes on medical facilities.
The warrant also states that Israel’s attack on the large humanitarian aid operation called the “Global Sumud Flotilla” that was going to break the blockade of Gaza is also considered a war crime.
Turkey has long condemned Israel’s military operation in Gaza as genocide. The country has suspended diplomatic and trade relations with Israel in light of the ongoing conflict.
Analysts say the move by the Istanbul prosecutor carries an important international signal. Earlier in November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) decided to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yav Galant on war crimes charges.
