Lieutenant General Md. Mainur Rahman, General Officer Commanding, Army Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (GOC ArtDoc), said these things at a press conference organized at the army headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.
He said, like the people of the country, the army also wants a free, fair and impartial election to be held as per the government’s outline. A time frame has also been given in that outline. We hope that if the election is held, the stability of the country will improve, the law and order situation will gradually normalize and the army will be able to return to the cantonment then. We are looking forward to that.
Responding to a question from journalists at the press conference, Mainur Rahman said, like the people of the country, the army also wants the election to be held as per the outline prepared by the government. If the election is held, the stability of the country will return, the law and order situation will normalize. That is our wish for the army to return from the field. We want fair elections to be held and we return to the cantonment.
He said that some vested interests are spreading false, fabricated and purposeful propaganda. The army is now more united than ever before. The army will fulfill the responsibility given to the army.
Mainur Rahman said that the army’s overall preparations are being made focusing on the elections. The army will cooperate as the Election Commission wants for a fair and impartial election.
He also said that army camps will be set up in every district, upazila and constituency to ensure fair elections.
He also said that the chiefs of the three services recently met with the chief advisors, which was informed by the chief advisor’s office.
At the press conference, he said that the army has recovered 81 percent of the lost weapons in recent operations. In addition, a large amount of weapons and ammunition has been recovered from the airport and railway station. He also mentioned that the army’s bomb disposal unit has neutralized more than a hundred bombs.
Referring to the army’s field-level duties for the past 15 months, the army officer said, “Look back at the situation after August 5. During this time, the army has handled many things, including floods in Comilla and Noakhali, road blockades over various demands. No one can imagine how much the situation would have deteriorated if we were not there.” He also said that operations will be intensified to prevent any arms shipments from entering Dhaka.
