Muktadesh Desk: The High Court has ordered the formation of an expert committee to investigate the overall safety and accident issues of the Metrorail and submit a report within 30 days. A bench of the High Court gave the order on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a legal notice has been sent to the family of Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed when a Metrorail bearing pad hit him in the capital’s Farmgate area, to pay Tk 10 crore in compensation.
The notice was sent to the Secretary/Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited. The legal notice was sent by post on Tuesday by Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Enamul Haque Nabin.
It has been asked to pay Tk 10 crore and provide a permanent job to a member of Kalam’s family in the Metrorail within 30 days of receiving the legal notice. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against them, the notice states.
The notice said that on October 26, two bearing pads fell from pier number 433 adjacent to the MRT Line-6 Farmgate Metro Station of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, operated under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. One of the bearing pads fell on the head of pedestrian Abul Kalam Azad, killing him on the spot. The deceased Kalam was the sole earner of his family. He has a wife and two children. His younger brother studied with Kalam’s financial support. He was killed due to extreme negligence and mismanagement of the Metrorail management. The Metrorail authorities are responsible for this.
