Muktdesh Desk: BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that there is no chance of a referendum before the 13th National Parliament election.
The National Consensus Commission has proposed a referendum before the national election or on the day of the election as part of the implementation of the July Charter. In this regard, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “This proposal may be from the commission, but BNP does not agree. We have clearly stated that our position is that the referendum and the election will be held on the same day, through two separate ballots. This is as clear as day.”
He said that there is no opportunity to bring this issue up again and there is no opportunity to discuss it. The referendum will be held on the day of the election through two separate ballots. There is no opportunity to go beyond this. This has been the position of BNP since its first day, which is still unchanged and will not change in the future.
British High Commissioner to Dhaka Sarah Cook paid a courtesy call on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday (October 28) afternoon.
The hour-long meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan in the capital. BNP Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir, Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid and Tabith Awal, a member of the Chairperson’s Foreign Policy Advisory Committee, were present.
After the meeting, Amir Khasru said, elections are ahead.
