Muktadesh Desk: A lawyer has sent a legal notice seeking compensation of Tk 10 crore for the family of Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed when a metro rail bearing pad fell off in the capital’s Farmgate area.
Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Enamul Haque Nabin sent the notice by post to the Secretary/Senior Secretary of the Bangladesh Roads, Family and Bridges Ministry and the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited on Tuesday (October 28).
The legal notice states that legal action will be taken if Tk 10 crore and a permanent job for a family member of the deceased is not given a permanent job in the metro rail within 30 days of receiving the legal notice.
The legal notice states that on October 26, two bearing pads fell off from Pier No. 433 adjacent to the MRT Line-6 Farmgate Metro Station of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, operated under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. One of the bearing pads fell on the head of pedestrian Abul Kalam, killing him on the spot. The deceased Abul Kalam Azad was the sole breadwinner of his family. Abul Kalam Azad has a wife and two children. His younger brother studied with the financial support of Abul Kalam Azad. Abul Kalam was killed due to the extreme negligence and mismanagement of the Metrorail management. As a result, the Metrorail authorities are responsible for Abul Kalam Azad’s death. The Metrorail authorities have not properly maintained their facilities and equipment and have been operating the Metrorail in a faulty condition without checking and monitoring where and when there are any faults. This has become a serious threat to public safety. The Metrorail operated under them has been neglecting it for a long time and has been operating its operations with faults and putting public safety at risk, resulting in the death of Abul Kalam Azad.
The notice also states that the Metro Rail authorities will provide five lakh taka as compensation for the death of Abul Kalam Azad on October 27 and will provide a job in the Metro Rail to one of his family members, which is very small, unrealistic, vague and insulting.
The notice recipients will provide 10 crore taka as compensation and financial assistance to his family for the life of Abul Kalam Azad within the next 30 days and will provide a permanent job in the Metro Rail to one of his family members. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against you. Which will set a shameful precedent for the state.
