Muktadesh Desk: If BNP comes to power, it will give importance to the Padma-Tista water distribution and Farakka issue, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He said, ‘There will be an equal relationship with the neighboring country; there is no room for grandstanding.’
He told reporters after inspecting the rubber dam built on the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj on Saturday (November 15) morning.
Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘Every country protects its interests – this is normal. But if there is no elected government of the people, legitimate demands cannot be realized. If BNP is able to form a government, it will give importance to realizing fair rights related to the distribution of Padma-Tista water.’
Regarding relations with India, the BNP Secretary General said, ‘Our neighboring country can maintain good relations with us if it wishes. I think they helped us during the war, so we need to help Bangladesh more.’ At this time, Mirza Fakhrul called on India to maintain cooperative relations with Bangladesh.
He also said, ‘We are committed to our commitment. This is our politics. We want to give more importance to the water share here, killings on the border, fixing our balance of power. Relations with neighboring countries will be based on equality. However, India’s bigotry on us must stop. This is what we want.’
Commenting on a party trying to create division in the BNP, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘They want to take advantage of this in politics. BNP leaders and activists must be careful in this regard.’
‘We cannot create conflicts and divisions among ourselves. Another party is trying to come to power. Our past experience shows that it is not possible for them to change the country and restore order in the state,’ added the BNP Secretary General.
Incidentally, BNP has organized a mass rally at Nawabganj Government College ground on Saturday afternoon in Chapainawabganj with the slogan ‘Save Padma, Save the Country; Bangladesh First’. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to attend the rally.
