Muktadesh Desk: When will the referendum be held? What will be the content of the referendum? What steps will be taken regarding the disagreements in the July Charter? The Advisory Council has expressed its opinion that it is necessary to take a final decision on an urgent basis in light of the proposals of the Consensus Commission on these issues.
In this regard, the political parties, long-time allies of the anti-fascist movement, have been called upon to discuss among themselves and give unified directions to the government as soon as possible, if possible within the next week. It will be much easier for the government to take a decision if they receive such instructions.
Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said these things at a press conference organized at the ‘Karbi Hall’ of the Chief Advisor’s office in Tejgaon, the capital, on Monday at 12:15 pm.
Asif Nazrul said that thanks have been expressed to the National Consensus Commission and the political parties for establishing consensus. The meeting of the Advisory Council discussed the finalization of the July National Charter Constitution Amendment Order proposed by the Consensus Commission, and the organization of the referendum and the content of the referendum mentioned in it.
The meeting mentioned that despite long discussions in the Consensus Commission, there are still differences of opinion on some of the recommendations for reform. In addition, there are differences among political parties on the question of when the referendum will be held and what its content will be. Therefore, concerns were expressed in the meeting.
In this context, the meeting expressed the opinion that it is necessary to take a final decision on an urgent basis in light of the proposals of the Consensus Commission on when the referendum will be held, that is, when will the referendum be held? What will be the content of the referendum? What steps will be taken regarding the disagreements described in the July Charter?
He also said that the political parties, which have been allies of the anti-fascist movement, are called upon to discuss among themselves on their own initiative and provide unified directions to the government as soon as possible, if possible within the next week. If such instructions are received, it will be much easier for the government to take a decision.
The legal advisor said that in the current situation, there is no opportunity to delay, and that also needs to be taken into consideration by everyone.
The Advisory Council meeting reiterated the government’s determination to hold the next national parliamentary elections in the first half of February 2026.
