Muktadesh Desk: Seven people have been reported dead so far in a powerful earthquake that struck Afghanistan’s northern Hindu Kush region. In addition, 150 people have been injured, according to the country’s Health Ministry. Rescue work is underway after the earthquake. It is feared that the death toll may rise further.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a 6.3 magnitude earthquake was felt at 12:59 am local time on Monday (November 3). The earthquake struck at a depth of 28 kilometers (17 miles) near the city of Mazar-i-Sharif in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
The German Research Center for Geosciences said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4. However, there were no reports of any damage or casualties in the earthquake so far. AFP correspondents from the capital Kabul said they also felt the tremors.
Afghanistan has been hit by a series of earthquakes in the past few months. An earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan in the early hours of October 24. However, there were no casualties or damage.
Before that, an earthquake shook Afghanistan on October 17. The magnitude of the tremor was 5.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 10 kilometers below the surface. The tremor was also felt in Jammu and Kashmir. However, there were no casualties or damage.
Earlier, on August 31, the worst earthquake in the country’s history struck Afghanistan. Its magnitude was 6.0 on the Richter scale. More than two thousand people died in it. About three thousand more were injured.
