Muktadesh Desk: The deep depression located in the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and intensified into a cyclone. The cyclone has been named ‘Montha’. It is now located in the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal.
This was stated in a special bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department today.
It further said that at 3 am on October 26, the cyclone was located 1,360 kilometers southwest of Chittagong Seaport, 1,300 kilometers southwest of Cox’s Bazar Seaport, 1,280 kilometers southwest of Mongla Seaport and 1,260 kilometers southwest of Payra Seaport. It may move further west-northwestwards and intensify further. The cyclone is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast of India by the evening or night of October 28.
The Meteorological Department said that the maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is 62 km per hour, which is increasing to 88 km per hour in gusts or squalls.
In addition, the sea is very rough in the area near the cyclone center.
The sea ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to lower the distant warning signal number one and instead display the distant warning signal number two.
In addition, all fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been asked to navigate carefully near the coast and not to venture into deep sea until further notice.
